The Divine Celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi – Birth Anniversary of Lord Ganesha
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the Hindus’ main festivals. This festival holds special significance, and just like we eagerly wait for other festivals throughout the year, everyone also looks forward to this one with great excitement. We celebrate it as the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha. On this day, special worship and rituals are performed for Lord Ganesha.
How It’s Celebrated
Since this festival is celebrated at home and in public, it has a unique importance. In particular, it is celebrated for 10 days. On this occasion, idols of Lord Ganesha are brought home so that He may bless the household with peace, prosperity, and happiness. For the entire 10 days, different offerings (bhog) are prepared for Ganesha. On the last day, the idol is immersed in water (Visarjan) with great joy, dancing, and singing, with the hope that Lord Ganesha will once again return the following year, bringing happiness and prosperity. However, in some places, the immersion is also done on the 2nd or 5th day.
